Cut string staircase with black metal balusters

Cut string staircases provide considerable flexibility in creating a unique staircase. 

This cut-string stair is manufactured with: 

• The risers mitred to the strings.
• The treads overhang the strings by 20mm.

The treads also have a square-edged profile, creating a more modern look that suits the property's aesthetic.

The outside string (against the wall) is also cut string. 

However, because the treads are up against the wall, they do not need to overhang; this creates a better aesthetic than using a conventional "standard construction" string against the wall.

We now offer 12mm black metal balusters with all staircases.

However, to supply these with cut string stairs we do the following:

• Cut each metal baluster to the appropriate length to suit that stair.
• Put square holes into each tread at the correct spacing.

This allows you to get the stairs fitted quickly and looking great.

When specifying and buying a staircase, there are many material options available.

Often, customers opt for the entire staircase in oak or to paint the whole staircase.

However, a mix of materials, such as in the case of this staircase, can look quite effective and is much more cost-effective than having the entire stair in oak.

We do not generally recommend painting the "touch points", such as handrail caps and treads, as the paint can easily chip and look unsightly.
